Toast to St. Pat, despite Lockdown!
Updated: Jun 11
Over here in the Quaranine Zone, we’re listening to some Irish tunes by Scythian and wondering if, despite lockdown, folks around the world are eating Irish stew in quarantine today and toasting this great saint who died in beautiful Ireland, known by many as “the land of saints and scholars.”
My heritage is “half Irish” (on my mom’s side … which she will always remind me is my “better half”) so I figure that I have some claim to Hibernia, but either way, I’m very grateful to Patrick for bringing the faith to the Emerald Isle. John, on the other hand, has been affectionately labeled by my Irish side of the family as “Irish by desire.” A title which he has surely embraced! ☘️
So we’ll raise a glass in thanksgiving for Patrick and the shamrock/Trinity story, the tree that sprouted from his noble staff, and for getting rid of those yucky snakes! Good riddance, laddies!
No, quarantine can’t stop us!
Excerpt from the St. Patrick’s Breastplate Prayer
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.
I arise today through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity, through belief in the Threeness, through confession of the Oneness of the Creator of creation.
I’d love to hear from you - how did you celebrate St. Patty’s Day in quarantine?
